From director Steven Spielberg comes War Horse, an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a teenager called Albert Narracott (Jeremy Irvine), who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted at the start of the War, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets: British cavalry with Captain Nicholls (Tom Hiddleston) & Major Jamie Stewart (Benedict Cumberbatch), German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter, Emilie (Celine Buckens). The story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land when Joey is reunited with Albert after many years apart. The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse, an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure.
This movie was just okay for me. It actually took me three sittings to finally complete this long 146 minute-film. I’m not sure if it would have lasted if I was watching this movie in the theatres because I found the pacing to be quite slow. However the storyline did keep me engaged, and I found myself actually rooting for a horse.
Overall, I would give this movie 6/10 stars. Check it out. Happy Viewings!
