This movie tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all. Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s Blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions: Silver Lion (Byron Mann), Brass Body (Dave Bautista) & Poison Dagger (Daniel Wu) to create elaborate tools of destruction. Zen Yi, The X-Blade (Rick Yune) is also on a quest to avenge the murder of his father Bronze Lion (Cung Le) at the hand of the traitor Silver Lion. Lastly, Jack Knife (Russell Crowe), spends his time at Madam Blossom`s (Lucy Liu) brothel, biding his time, before he can assist his new comrades in the fight against the enemy clan. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the Blacksmith channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside the iconic heroes: Zen Yi & Jack Knife and against soulless villains: Silver Lion, Brass Body and Poison Dagger, the Blacksmith must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.
The Kung-fu fighting in this film was pretty exciting. It reminded me of the Bruce Lee movies from the 70s & 80s. The story was a bit confusing & choppy though. I just found myself losing interest, until the next fight scene would start again. This is definitely a movie to watch if you are only interested in seeing a good fight.
Overall, I would give this movie 4/10 stars. Check it out if you like. Happy Viewing!
