Here’s another blog from a Mississauga Chiropractor…
Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) and Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) are two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it’s love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges. Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin) & Lonny (Russell Brand), run “The Bourbon Room”, a popular nightclub on the Sunset Strip. They are able to land the services of Rock & Roll Legend Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) to star as the headliner, in order to get themselves out of financial trouble. In the meantime, the mayor’s wife, Patricia Whitmore (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is trying her hardest to ban Stacee Jaxx and his indecent rock & roll lifestyle from the public.
Even though Rock of Ages got poor reviews from the critics, I really enjoyed it. I even found myself downloading the soundtrack from iTunes when I got home from the theatre, and I now listen to the film’s 80’s rock ‘n’ roll hits in my car. Julianne Hough did a great job playing the naïve small town girl. Similar to her beautiful dancing on Dancing with the Stars, she had an equally beautiful voice playing Sherrie Christian. Diego Boneta played a good Drew Boley. I even liked him better than Constantine Maroulis who played Drew Boley on Broadway. But Tom Cruise stole the show once again. His portrayal of Stacee Jaxx was amazing. He combined the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Def Leppard & Jon Bon Jovi in some unforgettable stage performances. Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin & Catherine Zeta-Jones also added a lot of comic relief throughout the film.
Overall, I would give this film 9/10 stars. Definitely check it out in IMAX if you have a chance. It will feel like you are at an actual rock concert. Happy Viewing!
