Do your first few steps out of bed in the morning cause severe pain in your heel? Does the pain then gradually decrease with walking? Or does your heel hurt after jogging or playing sports?
You might be suffering from a condition called Plantar Fasciitis, a common cause of heel pain caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia — the tissue along the bottom of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes.
Symptoms include: sharp, stabbing or burning pain that’s usually worse in the morning as you take your first steps and gradually gets better as you continue to walk. Heel pain following running, sports, prolonged walking or standing or even after getting up from being seated for a long time. Swelling at the heel may also be present.
Common causes: are increased physical activity, arthritis, faulty foot mechanics and improper shoes. Factors that may increase your risk include: being active in sports, flat feet or high arches, middle-aged or older, overweight, pregnant, occupational risks (prolonged standing), wearing shoes with poor support.
Good News!! Plantar fasciitis can be managed with conservative care. Chiropractic care can help with diagnosis and treatment of planar fasciiitis and other foot realted problems.
