Here’s another Blog from a Mississauga Chiropractor…
On Sunday August 26th, 2012, Maria and I took the boys to FanExpo Canada at the Toronto Convention Centre.
Special appearances were made by Marvel’s Stan Lee, the cast members from Criminal Minds (Matthew Gray Gubler & A.J. Cook), Angel’s Julie Benz, Juliet Landau & James Marster, Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Levar Burton, Charmed: Rose McGowan, Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd, The Incredible Hulk’s Lou Ferrigno and many more.
Unfortunately we didn’t get to see any of these actors since we got there on the last day with only 2 hours left before closing. We did get to see John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings, but we decided to save the $30 it cost to get his autograph.
When we arrived at the Toronto Convention Centre we were able to skip the long line-up to get in by taking the special access entrance because Tristan and Mason were with us. It pays to have kids sometimes. The boys were both free, and it cost Maria and I, $35 each.
Throughout the venue, people were dressed up in costumes from Wonder Woman, to Halo, to Batman, to Lolita characters. There were also a bunch of costumes that I had no clue about. Tristan had to explain to me what they were dressed up as.
There were tons of local comic artists from the GTA displaying their works of art. The drawings of Tristan’s favourite superheroes were amazing. We even saw some sculptures of the Hulk & Venom that were selling for $5,000 each.
Other booths were selling vintage toys from the 1970s & 1980s in their original packaging. Maria was disappointed that her prized Queen Amidala dolls were only selling for $30. Plus there were an assortment of superhero T-shirts for sale everywhere we turned.
At the back of the expo was a huge LEGO display of the Hulk, Batman, Gandolf & Frodo. There was also a small LEGO centre where kids were allowed to play.
Tristan dove right into this. They also had a bunch for yet to be released, Xbox and PlayStation 3 Games that were on display for trial.
We were excited to see the new Lego Lord of the Rings game, and Tristan tried the new WWE 13 video game.
There were huge line-ups for the Kinects – Just Dance 4 game and Kinects Superhero game, so we weren’t able to try them, but just watching other people play the Kinects games were entertaining enough.
Near the end of the day, some vendors started giving away free stuff.
A huge mob of people were gathered around the back with their hands up in the air, diving at shirts, video games, Xbox live head sets & action figures as the vendors were throwing them into the crowd. Tristan was able to get a Batman-Scarecrow action figure, when one of the volunteers just handed it to him, telling him that he deserved it more than some of the bigger adults. We also got a free Batman T-shirt that was tossed into the crowd. I snagged that one.
Overall, we had a great time at the FanExpo. We finished the day with a picture beside a life sized C3PO and R2D2… However, the picture got ruined when the C3PO was called away by his boss in the middle of the picture. Just another day in the Life of a Mississauga Chiropractor
