Here’s another Blog from a Mississauga Chiropractor…
Do you experience pain in your hands or wrists? Do you have difficulty gripping?
Are you experiencing numbness or tingling of your fingers?
If so, you may be experiencing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where a nerve in the wrist that supplies feeling and movement to parts of the hand becomes compressed. The area where the nerve enters the hand is called the Carpal Tunnel. Compression of the nerve within the Carpal Tunnel is called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Compression of this nerve can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers.
Symptoms are commonly seen at night and with repetitive use of the hands.
- Numbness, tingling or burning sensation in the thumb and next two or three fingers
- Pain or weakness in wrist or hand in one or both hands
- Wasting away of the muscle under the thumb (in advanced or long-term cases)
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is common in people who perform repetitive motions of the hand and wrist and is most often seen in individuals who type. Other causes include: sewing, driving, assembly line work, painting, writing, use of tools (especially hand tools or tools that vibrate) and sports such as racquetball or handball.
Chiropractic Treatment, Acupuncture and Prescription Stretches/Exercises.
Chiropractors can diagnose and treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other wrist/hand related conditions. Various treatment options (ie: soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, stretches, exercises) may be used to help to decrease pain and restore movement. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is very amendable with conservative treatment. Chiropractic Care can help you get back to your daily activities with less pain and improved function. Don’t let your pain stop you from engaging in your daily activities.
