Here’s another Blog by a Mississauga Chiropractor….
This past Sunday was my first long run after my Chicago Marathon. When I got to Rivergrove Community Centre to meet up with my Nomads Running Club, I was greeted by a lot of familiar faces who were congratulating each other for their excellent marathons from the week before. A number of my fellow Nomads had just run the Columbus Marathon, Toronto Scotiabank Marathon & Chicago Marathon. A lot of personal bests were achieved this season, and everyone was proud of their hard efforts.
Today, I met up with Corky, Tony, Brian, Jeremy & Peter. We decided to tackle22 kmthis day, which just meant that we had to run to the bottom of the trail, and back. During our run, Corky was telling me about the new training program that he started this summer. It consisted of running 80 minutes each day, with a tempo workout on a Saturday & a longer run on the Sunday with the group. The idea behind this particular workout is to get more consistent mileage into your week, without the intense stress of track intervals & hill work. Corky didn’t run a marathon this fall, so he wasn’t able to gage how his new workouts translated to longer races. But he did finish a couple of fast half-marathons. He also said that he was injury free this past summer, which was a pleasant change.
On this run I also wore my posture garment (“boytle”). I have tried it before on shorter runs and during a 5K race, but this was the first time I wore it for a longer run. I’m not sure if it was the garment or the nice cool weather, but I had one of my better long runs in a while.
Overall great workout for my first long run back… I’m excited about this winter training season. Happy Running!
