This is a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) a man from the Ghetto Time Zone is given a Century`s worth of time by Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer), but when Hamilton`s time has run out, Salas is falsely accused of Hamilton`s murder. Salas he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried). Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.
I really like the concept of this movie. This alternate universe use time as currency which is an interesting idea. The rich live for centuries while the poor scramble to stay alive in the ghetto. It`s interesting how people might be more cautious of what they buy when they have to trade in time off their lives to pay for it. A night at a hotel might cost two months of your life, a meal at a restaurant might cost a week. An expensive car might cost a decade of your life. People also get paid with time added to their life, and could even win more time gambling at the casino or even stealing it from each other, through muggings. Another interesting concept was the idea that nobody grows older than 25 years old. So someone’s mother, wife and daughter could all look the same age, which is both appealing and disturbing. Justin Timberlake did a great job in the role of Will Salas. He`s turning into a good action-film actor… Reminiscent of a young Will Smith.
Overall, I would give this movie 8.5/10 stars. Check it out! Happy Viewings
