Here’s another Blog by a Mississauga Chiropractor…

The Walt Disney Marathon Goofy’s Race & Half Challenge was on the bucket list of things to do for a while now.  Maria and I thought it was an interesting concept, attempting to complete a half marathon on Saturday and then run a full marathon on Sunday.  With a few marathons under our belt, we decided to tackle the Goofy Challenge on January 8 & 9, 2011.

We heard that many runners dressed up in costumes for this event, so when we got to Florida, we spent the first few days looking for the perfect “his” & “her” costumes.  Beauty & the Beast? Mickey & Minnie Mouse?  Woody & Jessie from Toy Story?  We eventually settled on Thing 1 & Thing 2 from Cat and the Hat… Not quite Disney, but it was good enough.

The actual races were so much fun.  We ran the majority of both races together… We were separated a few times when one of us decided to take an occasional early walking break, but we always joined up again when it was time to run through the Theme Parks.  We started at Epcot Center, ran to and through Magic Kingdom, then to Animal Kingdom, next stop was MGM/Hollywood Studios and then we finished back at Epcot.  There were so many spectators as we ran through the theme parks, and throughout the race we constantly heard shouts of, “Go Thing 1!!! Go Thing 2!!!”  We stopped counting after 50.

There were tons of Disney characters along the route.  Runners would stop and line up to take pictures with their favourite Disney character.  I counted 32 characters that Maria & I posed next to.  Some runners even asked to pose beside us.  Our costumes were a hit.

We finished the Half in 2:21 & the Full in 5:15, mostly accounting for the long line ups we waited in and the many bathroom stops we made along the way.  By far the slowest marathons we have both completed thus far.  However it was the most fun.

The following Monday, was the best both of us had ever felt after a marathon.  We weren’t sore, and we weren’t walking funny either.  We spent that Monday at the Magic Kingdom with the boys.  Free Entry to anyone with a Disney Marathon Medal… Another Disney perk!
