Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) is a member of Operation Outcome, a Department of Defense Black Ops program, which enhances the physical and mental abilities of field operatives through pills referred to as “chems”. When Operation Outcome must be shut down, all the participating scientists and field operatives, including Aaron Cross are ordered to be eliminated. Aaron Cross uses his enhanced physical and mental abilities to escape his predators in his quest to disappear for good.
This fourth edition to the Bourne movie family was just okay for me. The beginning of the film was quite confusing with a lot of references to the previous Bourne movie (and I did watch the last Bourne). The story started to get interesting when the characters started to fill in some of the missing information, and the field operatives started to get eliminated one by one. I did enjoy the action scenes in Alaska and the Philippines. The actors made great use of the environment as they were climbing and chasing each other. Rachel Weisz gave a strong performance as the naive Dr. Marta Shearing, who was helping Aaron Cross regain his superhuman abilities. Edward Norton played Col. Eric Byer, the main guy in charge of the Operation shutdown. Even though he was the bad guy, I wasn’t hating the guy. There was a weird character, LARX #3 (Louis Ozawa Changchien) who was a field operative who was activated to hunt down and kill Aaron Cross.
The chase scenes were very Terminator 2-like when Robert Patrick who played the T-1000 was chasing down John Connor (Edward Furlong). Now as for Jeremy Renner’s portrayal of the new hero Aaron Cross in this latest Bourne film, I think he did a pretty good job. He lacked the Matt Damon charm as Jason Bourne, but his athletic ability and fighting skills were excellent.
Overall, I would give this film 6/10 stars. Check it out… Happy Viewing!!!
