In high school, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) was a dork and Jenko (Channing Tatum) was the popular jock. After graduation, both of them joined the police force and ended up as partners riding bicycles in the city park. Since they are young and look like high school students, they are assigned to an undercover unit to infiltrate a drug ring that is supplying high school students synthetic drugs.
Growing up I watched Johnny Depp & Peter DeLuise as officer’s Tom Hanson & Doug Penhall, go into different high schools week after week to take down the bad guys. So I was excited when I heard that they were coming out with a remake of this entertaining 1980s TV show. From watching the previews, I figured this was going to be a comedy rather than an action flick. I wasn’t disappointed. The theatre I was in was roaring with laughter as Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum went back and forth with their jokes and slapstick comedy. The chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum is brilliant, and it’s nice to see Tatum in something other than his standard romantic comedy. I was already laughing from the first scene, which is generally hard to do and the humour was the correct balance of wit and slapstick. There were actually a lot more clever jokes than I expected and there were some scenes were I couldn’t even control my laughter in a full theatre.
Overall, I’d give this movie a 9/10 stars. Definitely check it out! Happy Viewing
